Dr. Hubert O’Connor Bequest

The Napoleon Society of Ireland is delighted to announce the bequest of a collection of books and artifacts from the archives of Dr. Hubert O’Connor, author of the hugely successful “The Emperor and The Irishman” the story of Napoleon and his Irish Doctor Barry O’Meara who was charged will looking after the Emperor in his banishment on St. Helena.

Dr. O’Connor sadly died last year and his family have offered the bequest to the Napoleon Society of Ireland so that their father’s work will benefit those who wish to study and write about Napoleon and his links to Ireland.

Details of where the collection is to be housed will be announced in the near future.

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day

On behalf of the Board of The Napoleon Society of Ireland, I would like to wish everyone a very happy Saint Patrick’s Day.

The Napoleon Society of Ireland celebrates the intellectual, philosophical and political links between Napoleon Bonaparte and Ireland and on our National Day we extend honorary Irishness on all our Napoleonic friends throughout the world.

International Napoleonic Conference for Dublin

At the launch of the Napoleon Society of Ireland on Sunday March the 4th 2012, it was announced by J. David Markham, President of the INS, that Dublin will host the International Napoleonic Conference in 2016 to mark the centenary of the 1916 Easter Rising.

The launch of The Napoleon Society of Ireland was attended by a large crowd at St. Catherine’s Church on Thomas Street, on Sunday the 4th of March.

The event was attended by Gerard Cairet, Head of Consulate with the French Embassy, Eric Byrne, local TD, Dr. Rafe Blaufarb of the International Napolonic Society  (INS) and J. David Markham President of the INS.

To mark the launch of The Napleon Society of Ireland (NSI), Derek Byrne, President of the NSI was awarded the Fellowship of the INS for his efforts in highlighting the connections between Napoleon Bonaparte and Ireland.

Launch of Napoleon Society of Ireland

The Napleon Society of Ireland (NSI) will be officially launched on Sunday the 4th of March at 5pm in Saint Catherine’s Church on Thomas Street, Dublin 8.

We are delighted to announce that the NSI will be jointly launched by Mr. Chris Flynn, Principal Officer of Arts and Cutural Institutions, The Department of Arts, Hertitage and Gaeltacht Affairs and Msr. Gerard Cairet, Head of Council, The French Embassy.

The event will be attended by J. David Markham, President of the International Napoleonic Society (INS), who is flying in from Floriday especially for the occasion.

Dr. Rafe Blaufarb of the INS will also attend the ceremony which will be a remarkable celebration of a shared history between the Irish and French Nations.

The Emmet Medal for humanitarianism will be presented to Sr. Stan Kennedy, founder of the Immigrant Council of Ireland by Philip Emmet, the current representative of the Emmet family.
