At a meeting of the members of the NSI board on the 16th of February, it was decided not to award the Emmet Humanitarian Award in 2013.

The board have decided to establish a committee with express responsability for inviting nominations from the public from which a candidate will be chosen for presentation of the Robert Emmet Medal in March 2014.

Thomas Emmet, direct descendant of Thomas Addis Emmet, brother of Robert, has been nominated as Chair of the Emmet Humanitarian Award Committee.
